Hello Birders,
Just so you know I am still alive. I won't be able to post pictures until Sunday but boy do I have a crap load of them. Warblers, flycatchers, vireos, geese, grouse and owls oh my. I use the wife's apple for loading pics and I am still in the mountains racking up the birds. It's getting to the point where new birds are getting really hard to come by.
Talk with you soon.
Jamie
As time passes it must get exponentially harder to see new birds for the year (especially photographing them). I seen how many birds you have seen on ebird and with the 300 mark approaching, how many do you project you will see this year? With a little over 7 months left do you think you will come close to 351?(That would be awesome.) It has been fun reading along while you've been on your journey. I have been dipping my toe into the hobby of birding. I get a thrill of taking a picture of a bird I haven't seen and later discovering what it is; however, now I'd like to start being able to identify on site. I especially have a difficult time identifying gulls and terns. What bird guide would you recommend to a birding newbie? Thanks.

Hello Hunter, no way on 351, maybe 300. That's my goal I guess. Thanks for reading.
ReplyDeleteForgot to say, I like Peterson's field guide to birds of North America but Sibley's is probably the most thorough and comprehensive, especially the newest edition. I also use phone apps, both Peterson's and Sibley's. Some folks use National Geographic but I don't except as a reference at home.
