Gray-cheeked Thrush Program (01Oct2014)

My flight from California was via RDU so on the way home I stopped at Brian P's house for his Gray-cheeked Thrush program.  What an awesome set up Brian has and what a nice guy.  His house is just south of Falls Lake and he has planted a nice group of trees with berries that attracts all kinds of migrants.

Plenty of Scarlet Tanagers and some of them still had some scarlet left on them.  We also had at least one Summer Tanager.

Then around ten am we started to have our thrushes.  First up was a couple Swainson's.

Swainson's Thrush - see the buffy spectacles.

Then we got our main target - Gray-cheeked thrush.

Gray-cheeked Thrush - generally less rufous color in plumage and a "cold" grayish face with no buffy tones.  There is some grayish area around the eyes but its not really an eye ring like on the Swainson's and lacks the buffy tones.

Gray-cheeked.

Gray Cheeked. In fact the rest of the thrush pictures are.

We also had Wood Thrush, but I didn't get any pictures.

Scarlet Tanager.

Thanks Brian!

Great times.
